Improving Community Health

Coachella Valley Healthy Living works to improve the health outcomes of SNAP-eligible individuals in the Coachella Valley. We do this primarily through direct education, with classes for adults and children focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and health-related activities like gardening and cooking. We often provide these courses in collaboration with other governmental and social support organizations, including schools, after-school programs, other non-profits, and county and municipal social services programs.

Driving Change in Community Health

We work with health organizations to change their policies, systems, and environments to promote healthier options for the individuals receiving services.

These include but are not limited to:

  • Increasing access to nutritious foods
  • Reducing access to and consumption of less healthy foods and beverage
  • Employing behavioral economics to incentivize healthy behaviors
  • Increasing physical activity

Though we have many programs at our disposal, we are always looking to develop new methods of improvement with our partners.

Additionally, CVHL collaborates with the Tobacco Control Program to integrate tobacco control efforts into its initiatives. We work to reduce tobacco use and exposure in the Coachella Valley by advocating for policies that limit tobacco access and implementing educational campaigns working with youth and the community as well as supporting cessation. Through these tobacco control initiatives, we aim to enhance overall community health and support individuals in making healthier, tobacco-free choices.
