In a near-unanimous vote, the Senate today approved the Comprehensive Addictions and Recovery Act (S.524), the first standalone bill to pass the Senate in years. Known as CARA, the legislation authorizes much-needed funding for evidence-based prevention, treatment and recovery programs to help Americans struggling with addiction to heroin or other opioids.
Conditions like depression, anxiety and stress can affect a person’s health, well-being, relationships and workplace productivity. But too often, behavioral health conditions like these go untreated.

Christopher’s Clubhouse took home the top prize of $20,000 during the Regional Access Project’s “Desert Fast Pitch” event Wednesday afternoon, but it was El Sol Neighborhood Education Centers that walked off with the largest amount of grant funding. El Sol managed that feat by winning both the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation’s “Coaches Most Improved” award of $15,000 and the “Audience Choice” award of $10,000.
The Regional Access Project (RAP) Foundation is hosting its Nonprofit Communications Conference and Desert Fast Pitch event on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences in Rancho Mirage. Six Finalist organizations will be competing for cash grant prizes at the Desert Fast Pitch event immediately following the Communications Conference, which starts with a continental breakfast and registration at 8 a.m. Fast Pitch begins at 3:30.
