Former NASA Astronaut to speak to local high school students


[Palm Springs] Former astronaut and author Jose M. Hernandez will deliver an inspirational talk to local high school students during a dinner at the home of Regional Access Project Foundation Vice-Chair Craig Borba Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Mr. Hernandez will also be a guest speaker at RAP’s “Desert Fast Pitch Competition” Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences in Rancho Mirage.  Hernandez’ book “Reaching for the Stars” is the story of a young migrant farmworker’s dream of attending college and becoming an astronaut.

“We are extremely grateful to First 5 Riverside for sponsoring this inspiration speaker for our Desert Fast Pitch event,” said Leticia De Lara, CEO of the Regional Access Project.  “We invited Mr. Hernandez to speak at the event because of his role in First 5 California’s “Talk. Read. Sing.” campaign, promoting the importance of early childhood brain development.”
